I had the good fortune to be born into a creative family.  My father, David Bowen was an engineer, teacher, craftsman and keen traveller.  In addition, he was the architect of the family home.  He designed and made much of the furniture including a harpsichord.  My mother, Mary, was also a teacher, a pianist, an accomplished botanical illustrator and an excellent needlewoman.

My formal education was at Magdalen College School, Oxford where I made met Peter Greenham R.A., who was to have a profound influence on my art training.  Training which took me through the High Wycombe School of Art, the Byam School of Drawing and Painting, as it was then known, and the Royal Academy Schools, London where I aspired to become a portrait painter.

My portraits have been exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Scottish Academy.  Much of my time has been occupied with teaching, lecturing and conducting parties through some of the major European art collections.  I tutor painting groups in Turkey, India and Andalucia.

It has been my pleasure in recent years to be the President of the historic Poole and East Dorset Art Society and the Wareham Art Club.  As vice-chairman and chairman of Poole Arts Council, I was involved in generating kite festivals, a festival of sea music and art exhibitions.
